The Cricket World Cup will begin with hosts England taking on South Africa in the opening match at The Oval in London on Thursday. England, the clear favourites to win World Cup 2019, boast an incredible batting line-up that runs deep. Moreover, they are expected to have six to seven bowling options in their playing XI too. On the other hand, South Africa look solid on paper. With the likes of Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir in their ranks, South Africa's strength clearly lies in their bowling attack. With Dale Steyn not playing in the tournament opener, there is an opportunity for Chris Morris to rise up to the occasion and shine. However, Kagiso Rabada holds the key for South Africa as he can extract pace and bounce from any track.

LONDON: Tipped heavily to win their maiden World Cup, England will hope to get their campaign off to a cracking start when they take on South Africa at the Oval here on Thursday. The South Africans, for a change, are not among the favourites. In a slight worry for the organizers, it was raining here on Wednesday evening. The forecast for match day, though, is only of a cloudy sky.

England’s bid for a first ever Cricket World Cup triumph finally gets underway this morning when they host South Africa at The Oval in the tournament curtain raiser.

Since crashing out of the last World Cup in humiliating fashion four years ago, the England ODI side have undergone a dramatic transformation to become the number one ranked team on the planet.

Eoin Morgan’s men will be looking to get off to an explosive start, and arrive in good form, having thrashed Pakistan 4-0 earlier this month.
